Sewer Connection Costs – A Letter to Terrebonne Businesses

Mar 25, 2025 | Annexation, Districts in Trouble, Hook-Up Fees

After having attended the March meeting of the Terrebonne Sanitary District, it has come to our attention that most of the businesses in the District are not aware of the cost associated with connecting to the District. All this information is available on the district’s website (terrebonnesd.org) but may be difficult to locate.

Because of this we have taken it upon ourselves to update the businesses of the current estimated cost to connect to the sewer system.

As an example, since the first (and only) projected budget was issued we have noted that the SDC fees have increased from $6,480 to $7,500 and the monthly fees have increased from $65 to $85. These are the costs that each customer will be facing.

As always, we at Terrebonne Sewer District welcome your comments concerning these matters. Even more important, we welcome any and all comments from Terrebonne Sanitary District (whom we have NEVER heard from).

Thank you again for your support.

To: Business Owner
From: Terrebonne Sewer District

To be clear, we do not represent the Terrebonne Sanitary District (TSD) that is trying to start a sewer system in our community. We are a local group that writes a blog reporting on the actions of the sanitary district.

We are writing this letter to update you on possible actions by TSD that may very well affect your business. Although all actions considered by the board are available at their meetings, that information does not always get out to the general public.

The items presented to you today could change as the district matures, but we believe they may get worse before they get better.

1. SDC Fees: Fees paid by every business/homeowner that connects to the district, now planned to be $7,500 per EDU (Equivalent Dwelling Units)(see newsletter at TSD Newsletter 2024). Homes = 1 EDU and businesses = 1 EDU/ per 600 cf of water used. Your business would be 6 EDUs or $45,000

2. Rates: At this point they are planning on a monthly rate of $85/ per EDU/month (see newsletter at ( TSD Newsletter 2024). That would mean your monthly rate would be $510/month.

3. Sewer connection: In order to connect to the new system you would be required to abandon your system and install a pump system. Their estimated cost here is $15,000 to $32,000.

4. The district has said in the past that they will not require anyone to connect to the new sewer. According to their proposed ordinances, all businesses will be required to connect and any home system older than 25 years must connect (see ordinance section 3.5a at Proposed Ordinance).
